POST presents Ali علي — Live in Kuala Lumpur for the first time.
Tickets: www.ticketmelon.com/POST/ali
Founded by Arswandaru and John Paul Patton, Ali are a Jakarta-based trio whose music draws from centuries of Arab-Indonesian cultural exchange — middle eastern melodies filtered through 70s Indonesian psychedelic funk, cinematic soul, afrobeat, and disco. Arabic lyrics. Hypnotic grooves. A sound they describe as "Middle Eastern beats with Southeast twists."
Their debut album Malaka — named after the historic Malacca Strait, where Arab influence first reached the archipelago — introduced a band with a genuinely distinct point of view. The follow-up EP Patterns earned them a KEXP session and a write-up that compared them to Glass Beams and Khruangbin at their most extroverted. In 2025, they made their US debut at SXSW, were named Best International Music by Austin Monthly, and followed it with a 12-show run across eight European countries.
This is their first show in Malaysia. One night only.
With support from Sayyid el MuuTayyib, whose debut EP southeast asian hadhrami jungle threads Yemeni arabesque through jungle breaks, turning the west's own sonic vocabulary back on itself.
